Master Shinn recently came out of retirement for his first competitive tournament in fourteen years. He returned from Dallas, Texas, from the Korean Olympic Festival, with a gold medal. Master Shinn competed in a division which is dominated by highly skilled competitors, most often between their late teens and early twenties. As many of you know, Olympic Taekwondo sparring competitions at this level often have very low scores, 2-0, 2-1, 1-0 being very common scores . In this case, Master Shinn won all three of his matches, and that by a combined score of 190. Speaking about the event, he said: "I wanted to compete to validate the 'winning formulas' I have developed over the years, and to confirm that they were still effective against elite level competition. At the same time, I wanted to set an example for my students and inspire them." By winning, Master Shinn, along with the other winners, qualifies for the U.S. Korean-American team that will participate in the Korean Olympic Festival to be held in Korea in early fall. |
